29.09.2013 Berry's Ween Meme

Did you go trick or treating as a child? Only twice that I can recall. Once as a wee one and once when I was way old enough to know better. (More on that later.) We just don't do Halloween in Australia, we'll be lucky to have maybe three door knocks on Ween night. I have dressed up for a few pub parties though.

What was the best Halloween costume you ever wore yourself? Oh god...  I can't remember the first one but knowing me I was probably Donatello. Oh yes. I wanted to be the least cool Ninja Turtle when I grew up.*

What is your most vivid memory about Halloween? The one time when I was about 17 and was staying over at a friend's house. I promised Mum no trick or treating but of course that's exactly what we did. We both went as corpses - well bedsheet ghost plus loads of black guyliner really, but we pretended to have made some effort - and walked around to all our enemies' houses, griefing them. We also walked around to all our friends houses and griefed them too but those ones we did with love

Don't worry, I got hit with karma pretty damn hard the next day. I got a second degree sunburn walking home at 8:30am. Yep... I truly am a vampire in real life.

What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? Ahhh I know its not cool to admit fear at a modern horror movie, but the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill came very close to breaking me. I used to relish nightmare movies and would gleefully hunt them out laughing at the wusses. I saw that at three am at the end of a four movie marathon with my now-wife and I have never come closer to walking out of a theatre. Last year it was on television and I decided to watch it, surely it couldn't have been that bad. Five minutes in I went NOPE and cut it out of my life.

Also, The Notebook. That shit was terrifying

Do you ever get nightmares after watching a scary movie? Oh hell no, I have enough things in my RL to give me nightmares. And my SL too, come to think of it. There's no wiggle room for movies to squeeze into my psyche.

What will you be doing for Halloween this year, if anything, in SL and RL? RL I promised my kids we would finally carve a pumpkin this year. We haven't ever done it before. Not because I couldn't be bothered, but because pumpkins here look like this.  I tried it once, broke two knives and a filesaw. However, our local grocer has specially grown some 'Murican types just for Ween, and I have been begged to give it a go.

In SL I have not yet made plans! One of the best things about our little world is that we all get to share in each other's holidays and celebrations, and I have been informed by loved ones that I have to attend parties or else. I'm dressing up as a Viking this year. So long hair, no shirt, bits of animal hanging off me. In other words, business as usual.

Just blonde.

An Open Letter To Miley Cyrus

Dear Miley,

You are now a fully fledged Rock Star.

I have never seen this many pearls clutched before, and certainly not by musicians who got by on on shock value alone once people stopped listening to their actual music. You've got a truly bangin' bod and you are only going to be 22 once, so whack as much fun into your life with that sledgehammer as you can fit.

It's your party, you can do what you want.

Love, Winter

...because in the year 2713, I'll still be around. Sure, I'll be wearing enough face spackle to regrout the Sistine Chapel; and I'll likely have grown so much more taller and emaciated that I won't dare stand still for more than 5 minutes in a strip club...

... but I will ALWAYS be the guy wearing the sharpest suit.

I've been drifting around in this outfit or a while (ever since the recent makeup fair, as you'll guess when you look closely)  frightening small children, furry animals and anyone with the faintest modicum of good taste. I know that in theory fuschia and orange are so very wrong together, but it totally pushes my buttons.

I refuse to accept liability for any eyes that may be gouged out upon viewing this post.

OH YEAH and Eid Mubarak to my friends! Hope I don't put you off your feasting. #YOSLO

Arcade Addendum

Just as a reminder... the June round of The Arcade is almost over.

It's because you can totally see that I didn't realise my tattoos hadn't rezzed until I uploaded them... and Eve gets snarlingly vicious a little unhappy when I wake her up to retake pics, isn't it?

Arcade items seen in this post are from Miamai, Fashionably Dead, Wasabi Pills, Half Deer, Emery, Paper Doll, Standby, Trompe Loeil, Schadenfreude, Clawtooth, Maxi Gossamer, Commoner and Gizza.

The SL Movie Poster Challenge

Dear Berry;

I finally stumped up and did one of your memes.  I know we agreed that I was going to do Twilight, but I couldn't find any Sparklepires to skin.

It's just a shame that you haven't seen this movie. You'll find the source poster here.

Love, your friend the Dead Boy.

So its coming into Summer for most of you, but where I am things are starting to get cool down.

How cold does it get in Western Australia?

Well apparently as cold as it is in say, Seattle... this exact same time of year.

Never has a single snowflake fallen on my fair city. Makes you wonder why I chose the name I did, doesn't it?

So this is more or less what I would have been wearing today in the RL if my plans hadn't fallen through due to a sick daughter. Maybe a tad less bondage harnessy, maybe a bit more guyliner. I'm trying really hard to get mistaken for Tim Minchin in the street.

I'm flat out loving the new textures on Exile hairs; and this is the latest male one, Vindicated. My glasses are pretty much a dead ringer for the ones I wear rl, and they are by ReVel which only still seems to exist on MP - sadness. My newest everyday skin is Nathan by Tableau Vivant, as they pretty much always are. I love them, and I'm not even sorry.

From the neck down I'm leathered and bescaled by Guarded Cross in the Wild Heart jacket - as I said last time I blogged pythonskin, this is what should happen to ALL of the bastards. (Don't judge me until you also share a state with nine of the world's ten deadliest snakes.) I'm daring to go out in public in a system layer tank CALL THE FASHION POLICE because this Harness Tank from RGDW is just what I needed to fit under this... plus I spent a solid frustrating three hours trying to find something that wouldn't clip through the jacket. No photoshopping that shit out from me. Not only would that be a fake, but... I'm really bad at photoshopping. /mesh rant number 27 off.

I've been looking for a super realistic pair of cords for a while, and Phunk delivered on those for me. I'm really liking this store recently; they've got some hilarious suits that you need brass balls to pull off. They are super long with great ankle draping and the best footwear for these was the Miles shoes in Carmine by Miamai. Pill Kanto has been working really hard on shoes for both sexes recently, and his workmanship is flawless on these. They are also available in a black sole if you don't dig the leather.

Final notes... lessee. I've yet to find a watch that I like better than this Lancelot from Chronokit. If anyone knows of any really lifelike mesh ones, feel free to tap my shoulder inworld. This post is also the debut of my new infinitely favourite accessory, this ring from Chop Zuey. If you wanted to know more details of this then you'll see them on Strawberry Singh's blog.

That's pretty much it I think... there'll be an Arcade blog happening in the next few days from both Eve and myself, and I'll be making a conscious effort to get out of the studio and shoot in locations from now on. I can't promise I'll get any better at blogging as - let's face it, I've been doing this for six years now - but I will try fling them at you more often.

...because I have some new favourite things to show you, that's why.

This so-perfect-for-me Erik hair by Wasabi Pills currently only at the Magnificat sim of Fantasy Faire  as well as this Leather T Shirt from a new store named Xiaj which has all kinds of really interesting things for guys. You can check out their marketplace store too here.

These BioTech mesh pants from Fruk. Sadly I can't wear their skins; but now Chucky Hollack has gone into a collaboration with Dahlia Joubert of the new store Tabloid  and her women's clothes; and from what I can see they complement each other nicely.

Did I mention yet how much I love this rigged Drache Demon Tail and Spine from Unzipped; also only available at Crimson Fields sim at Fantasy Faire? And OMG HURRY you only have 2 days left!

And oh yeah; these.

DISCLAIMER - Yep I work for Miamai. But. I am super fussy about my eyes; if you know me even a little bit then you get that. I wouldn't endorse any eyes that didn't push my buttons. (And if you don't know me... then why not?) Monica has just released a new HUD mesh eye system named Protagoniste and one of the highlights is the 14 different colours of eyes in it. It's even better value for the other half of the species as it comes with lashes, eyeliner and cheek gems and you only have to fit these things ONCE then you get to play around with your look 5ever.

M'self I'm nuts about the embedded diamond ring. They bring back all my best memories of when my kids were babies and I'd fall asleep in exhaustion then wake up 90 minutes later to a screaming child with my contacts miraculously inside out and gluing my eyes together... ah. Good times.

It's-a me! Mario!

Last night Winter took me to Electrobit City, an 8-bit wonder of the SLworld! For all avatars of the Nintendo generation, Electrobit city is run by an amazing team of 8-bit fanatics. They have created a few areas (some still under construction) where people can navigate through parts of the Mario universe in the more modern...

...and 8-bit style. These areas are complete with sound effects from the game and iconic Mario characters. We're trying not to show too much as there are some really fun things to discover. In the future it's looking like there will be some RP opportunities in the 2D-3D community and well!

Once you land take a moment to adjust. I highly recommend clicking the flashing pole when you arrive and take the tutorial to learn how to navigate. There's a fun prize for completing it. There's also something fun in the first level when you reach the castle so don't give up, just watch out for the Goombas!

...and all of a sudden he realised that he existed. Why? Was it important? He spent some time on his back, just watching the gulls whirling above him as he mulled this over. "Yes," he decided. "And no. I'm here, that's unmistakable. I feel these splinters working their way into me, when less than a breath ago I was of these boards myself. But I feel no urge to act upon this knowledge. Hmmmmm..."

Arcade I

He sat up, so suddenly that his wooden form quivered a few times as it locked into place. Brushing shavings off his thighs, he looked around at his new world in delight. "It's all so dimensional, so full and it has air, and space, and light, and volume and... and how do I know these words? These concepts?" Something flitted past the corner of his vision as he gleed over life. His head turned. It turned much further than yours or mine could. But it was worth it.

Arcade II

There she was. A glory of youth, of vivacity, a vision constructed of cherry wood. She was pretending to not notice that he was staring at her, but of course he was too new to understand the wiles of women. She struck the most coquettish pose to exaggerate her grace, then arched her form into a perfect arabesque as she circled the carousel on her skates. He was enchanted, as was intended. After the perfect amount of time had elapsed, she chose to notice his presence.  She skated up to him, then stopped - sending a shower of sparks across his body. He covered his face with a wince, then lowered his arm as she circled him. "You are handsome;" she advised him critically "but you are lame.  Come with me. Let's remake you."

Arcade III

She led him to a trove. A sunlit cave of wonders that was also a game of chance. He darted from the red machine to the blue one, and lost his balance somewhere near the yellow, completely overwhelmed. He knelt on the green carpet and  whispered, not daring to look up. "All of this? I can choose from... ALL OF THIS?" She giggled, taking delight in his confusion. "Shhh... don't fret, pretty splinter. I want you to look good on my arm. Lets choose you a new self."

Arcade V

She led him back into the open, marveling at how easily he took to wheels. But everything is easy to learn when you are brand new, and don't have a head stuffed full of misconceptions. They frolicked along the boardwalk, he barely looked down at the planks that were his creator. She took great care to remind him that she was smoother, that her curves were more appealing and that her cherry wood was of great value. And she reminded him often. He smiled at her, not knowing that he should have been unhappy at her game.

Arcade VII

"Oh look!" He led her by the hand to the stall where balloons bobbed against their strings, and gazed up at them in delight. He untied one from the rack to hand to her, then realised that one single balloon was not a fitting enough tribute to her beauty. One more. Another. Several more to balance them out. And now to add these and... "For you." he bowed as he presented her with his prize.

Arcade IV

He grabbed her ankles as she was carried off shrieking, the winds claiming her from the pier. Luck was on their side this day, as he was able to haul her back from the skies. "But..." he asked her in puzzlement. "How...? You don't look that light?" not realising of course that this is a dreadful thing to say to a lady, no matter which kind. She sobbed in his arms, tears of sap running down her face as she confessed "I'm not re-hea-hea-lly cherry.... I'm just BALSA WOOD WITH A CHERRY VENEER. " She turned her face away in shame, not daring to meet his gaze.

He looked at her, stricken as she pulled out of his arms, preparing to flee. He shook his head and inwardly declared no. He clutched her heaving form and pulled her in close, then turned her face to his and told her steadily. "I don't care. You can't leave. I love you. I have no idea what love is, or what I'm supposed to do with it. But I LOVE you."

She stopped crying in disbelief. She had been so contemptuous of him, not realising that his was a heart of oak. Her entire being lit up and she beamed at him, then took his hand and whispered. "I'll show you exactly what you are supposed to do with this. "

Arcade VI

That was three years ago, readers. They fell in love, mad delirious eternal light filled love. They now have five beautiful children that they hold very high hopes for, even Bricky who was their "Very Special Child" and was treated no differently than the others. (Even if he did have to wear a muzzle in public.) The children were  always happy to visit The Arcade, especially on a Friday night when they were kicked out of the caravan so Daddy could stuff Mummy full of sawdust.

The end.

Oh yeah, and visit The Arcade.

Do you remember when the "Hope for Emilia" Fundraiser was on, back in July 2012?  I was cruising the event looking for things to buy as we have an adopted and most beloved family member who lives in the earthquake hit region. I rounded a corner busy in IM and then I saw it... the tent that housed the Kooqla Ojen skins. I was fairly dumbstruck; and instantly fell in love. They are so beautifully painted and highly stylised, and not everyone can wear them. But those who can are pretty much guaranteed a vainpyre slave.

It never occured to me that one day Kooqla would release male ones.

At first try I thought that I was in that sad group of the ones that couldn't pull it off, but after fighting my shape for a solid hour I proudly bought Gray in the 02 Shade. To my delight the creator also has a group gift of this skin out in a wonderful lilac tone.

Now... as you can see the skin is full of character. It's very highly shaded, and it defines your face for you, not the other way around. I smoothed out the jagged edges of my shape in these two pictures but I've made sure that I didn't correct any of the skin's shading, or do any internal editing. As you can see, there is a small problem with texture bleed on my lips BUT I feel pretty safe blaming that on my own particular lipshape rather than the skin itself. This is a problem I have crop up a lot and why I can't wear many skins. You can see the way the creator Rocketta Haven intended them to look on her flickr stream at this link. So demo them first just to be sure it works for your shape, and your aesthetic.

This post is dedicated to my friends Absinthe for loving this skin as much as I do, and to December so she can STFU about my goal for 2013.

Most important thing first - HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

Coming very soon to Ikebana.

Sparkly mesh unicorn horns that shoot out temp rez cupcakes. Or hearts. And lightning bolts too apparently. I'm trying to persuade the creator to work in a double rainbow too, but she kept wanting to know what it meant.

And why is this coming soon? Because sparkly unicorn horns that shoot out cupcakes and lightning bolts, that's why.

Accourse the only things even approaching awesome enough to go with this horn are this brand new Clumsy hair by Magika, and this delicious Fucking Unicorns tank top by A:S:S.

I made it onto the Second Life homepage again! There is no greater thrill or honour than being allowed to smear my pasty face all over your screen when you are trying to enjoy your morning coffee. If you go visit, remember to log out. Then you can see the gorgeous pics submitted by Eve PetlyakovSkankberry Singh, Harper Beresford, Harlow Heslop, Zaara Kohime and Arkansas Sorbet.

A heartfelt thank you to the people who offered their feels on the previous post, both in the comments and on plurk. OH and that one email that I got from Berry too. But it all came from people that I respect and admire, and I will get onto that bunny slipper challenge soon, Madame Law.

Hey... quick question. Do you guys;  yes you, the three people who still visit my blog after five years of blogging -  HI MUM! - mind if I blog casual menswear occasionally? Or are you more like - hell no. We go to Bouncer, siXX, Chance and Bronson for that; when we come here we expect the freakshow. How dare you. HOW VERY DARE YOU SIR.

Because if this is the case, lemme know eh? I'm trying out this thing where I'm attempting to convince myself that I don't have to dial every single blogpost up to eleven.

Phoenix Test_016

Phoenix Test_027

Mandala mesh Hutuu ears. They are something else, aren't they? I couldn't wear the first incarnation because they had crosses on them. I'll suffer for fashion, but not to the extent where my ears burst into flames.

Ruy hair by Taketomi. I'm not overly convinced by these textures. They are interesting but I think they'll take me a while to accept, just as Burley ones by the same creator did. This style is love though.

Then there's the Double Vest Plaid Date by Exiled Inc. I couldn't find an inworld for them, but I was pretty impressed when I saw this on Marketplace. It's cleverly layered, and it has some real volume which is probably the thing I like best about mesh.

Deadwool are back as I gleefully noted a few posts ago when I blogged some wicked formal shoes.  These are the Lahood pants, and that gathered cord around my leg is HUD colour change.

That's pretty much it... my skin is as pretty much always by Tableau Vivant. My bracelet is Earthstones, shoes which are just out of shot - sorry - are these, and they fit nicely under the pants. Feel free to give your feedback by hitting up the comments on this post, inworld or just ripping the crap out of me on plurk. Any attention is good attention, right?

The Susa Bubbles have caught a fish...

While they admire how big it is, the fish dies. They wonder if they are to blame. - Rose Borchovski

The Susa Bubbles are back in Rose Borchovski's latest installation: The Arrival of The Fish. The interactive exhibit allows you to to explore the plight of the Susas as they struggle to understand their role in the death of a fish.

There is quite a bit to see, hear, and touch as well as a few gifts along the way. My suggestion: Touch everything, zoom in everywhere...find where you fit in. Because you will.

If you fall you can always run to the nearest umbrella for a ride back up. It's also handy for exploring the sculptures floating away from the main installation. I have taken more photos at The Arrival of The Fish installation and they can be seen on my flickr page.

For more of Rose's past work check out Iono Allen's YouTube account for his latest machinima of the heartbreaking installation, The Inevitability of Fate. Winter and I experienced this together, and you can read his words about it in this recent post.

So as I threatened in my post last week - MORE BLOGGING MORE OFTEN!

...you know that bit when you are on your posestand and all your lighting is finally set up perfectly, all graphics settings are on superultramegaforce, your prims are adjusted and you snap one single pic and then decide you need a ring or something to finish your quick LOTD off...

.... so you double click that item but your inventory says LOLNOPE and dramatically throws an LM under that same spot you were clicking?

So just one picture today then.
